Things to do in L’Ampolla: Discover this fishing village

L’Ampolla is a small fishing village that has never been assaulted by aggressive mass tourism. It’s a traditional summer resort for families from Tortosa and the inland towns of the Baix Ebre region. It still preserves a familiar spirit of a town with a little bit more than 3,000 inhabitants.

It is the ideal destination for the whole family as it offers a wide variety of possibilities. So, if you are looking for sun and rest, you will be able to enjoy beaches for all tastes: from kilometric extensions of sand like Arenal, Les Avellanes or Cap-Roig; to stone beaches like Baconé or Capellans; to small calm and solitary coves, like Cala Maria and Cala Escaret. You choose how to enjoy this privileged environment. These are the ones that stand out!

Playa de El Arenal. It stands out for its fine golden sand typical of the beaches of the Delta. Due to its location, it is an ideal beach for children because of its shallow depth. It is known as “La Playa de la Calma“.

If you look closely, on the horizon you can see the tip of the Fangar. What wonderful views!

Les Avellanes. This beach is located right in the center of L’Ampolla.  It has fine golden sand and has been awarded several times with the blue flag. Its promenade has several services of bars and restaurants It is one of the busiest beaches in the municipality.

In addition, on this beach, you can find a sports area where you can practice beach volleyball.

Cap-Roig. This beach is without a doubt the flagship of all the beaches and coves of l’Ampolla. Awarded the blue flag is a large sandy beach surrounded by reddish cliffs that give it its name.

Baconé. Its dimensions are really small, with only 200 meters of length… that if, we assure you that you will find ideal conditions to relax!

Capellans. If we move to the north of l’Ampolla, just outside the village, we find the Playa dels Capellans. Of reduced dimensions, surrounded by pines and cliffs, it is really cozy. Take note that you will not find sand but white and black stones that contrast with the blue of the sea and the horizon. Really beautiful!

Cala Maria. Like the neighboring beaches, Cala Maria is surrounded by nature and cliffs. Its calm and sheltered waters contrast with a mountain sown with olive and carob trees. What tranquility!

Tourist Routes

If you like nature, there are many tourist routes in L’Ampolla to enjoy as the Bassa de les Olles, a very close natural area considered as one of the areas of the Ebro Delta with more richness and variety of environments, vegetation, and fauna. There you will be able to practice nautical activities, excursions in bicycle or on your own foot, fishing and discover the Natural Park of the Delta of the Ebro, the aquatic habitat and of birds more important of the Western Mediterranean. It is an ideal destination to discover new species and practice birdwatching.

If you prefer hiking, the route GR-92 de la Ampolla is a long-distance path that crosses the municipality. You will enjoy an excursion of incomparable beauty along the coast, where rocky stretches are interspersed with small stone coves.

The fishing and sports port of L’Ampolla is a center for nautical and leisure activities in which you can practice different sports such as windsurfing, sailing or water skiing. If you are a lover of sports fishing, you can enjoy catching species such as sea bass or tuna, and you can also experience “ronsa” fishing and underwater fishing.

And if you’re interested in tradition and want to enjoy the charm of a fishing village, you can’t miss the arrival of the boats at sunset or the traditional fish auction at the fish market.

There are many things to do in l’Ampolla, so you can’t miss the opportunity to discover what this coastal village hides. You will find us in the south of Catalonia, at the entrance to the Ebro Delta Natural Park.

L’Ampolla, as a village of seafaring traditions and part of the Ebro Delta offers a unique gastronomic richness: Variety of fresh fish and seafood such as the Delta oyster, mussels, clams and authentic rice dishes (seafood paella, black rice, arroz a banda), fideuá, eel in sauce, frogs’ legs, wild duck etc.

There are also typical and tasty sweets: “pastissets”, biscuits and the “coquetes”.
